Our Drug Awareness Committee held a seminar on the Dangers of Vaping, Opioid Abuse and Overdose prevention along with Narcan training. Margaret Motis, Massapequa’s Lodge Drug Awareness Chair and her co chairman Steve Monty brought in guest speakers from St Joseph’s Hospital, Nassau County District Attorney office, and Yes Community Council for this informative presentation. Every family received Narcan training and a free kit. There were over 68 people in attendance ranging from ages 15 years old thru adult. South East District Deputy John Nuzzi and Past District Deputy Frank Hunt came to the seminar in support of the program. The Drug Awareness Committee Nancy Parente, Julie Argueta, Margaret Keogh, Nancy Black, Edgar Shepherd, Annmarie Brown, Dean Brown, Dan McCann, Joann McCann, Lisa Donohue, Eileen Sabella and Danny Rendina greeted members of our community and handed out goody bags with cookies and drug awareness material. Refreshments and bottled water were served and donated by its members.

On July 11th Members of Massapequa Elks Lodge honor our nations Veterans by attending the funeral of five Veterans that had no families or were homelss. The funeral was held at the Long Island National Cemetary. These veterans have made tremendous sacrifices for our country and deserve to be honored.. We are grateful to be able to do our part in honoring our nation’s veterans during their funeral service. It is our way of giving back to those who have put their lives on the line to defend our freedom.
On June 20,2019 Members of Massapequa Elks Lodge 2162 went to the VA Hospital in Northport, Members Kathy Harrington and Margart Keogh Lecturing Knight met with the female veterans during their monthly meeting at the Community Living Center to create Forth of July decorations. The lodge provided the crafts from funds raised throughout the year.
For the year 2018-2019 Massapequa Elks Lodge 2162 was awarded second place in the state in membership gain. Our lodge brought in 22 new members through out the year. Award was presented by John M Nuzzi Sr, DD Elect to our Lodge Secretary James Justice PER and Pete LaRosa PER
For the elk year 2018-2019 Massapequa Elks Lodge 2162 acheived over $10.00 per person for major projects (Cerebral Palsy) per capita. Award was presented to Peter LaRosa PER by John M Nuzzi Sr, DD Elect, Frank Hunt District Deputy and William Schmidt Past DD Massapequa Elks Lodge 2162 members collected and put together care packages for its Adopted Active Troops. Six boxes were shipped out to our "adopted" Active Duty Troops containing items that they specifically requested - coffee, laundry detergent, chocolate bars, Girl Scout Cookies and Cup O Soup!
Massapequa Elks Lodge 2162 Attends Girls Scout Gold Award Ceremonies and Eagle Scout Ceremony7/9/2019 June 7th was a very busy day for the Massapequa Elks Lodge #2162. James Justice, Lodge Secretary attended Boy Scout Eagle Award Ceremonies in both Wantagh and Massapequa. Margaret Motis, Trustee and Margaret Keogh, Lecturing Knight attended the Girl Scout Gold Award Ceremony in Massapequa. Our officers presented Certificates of Honor on behalf of our Exalted Ruler Richard Milhaven and the Massapequa Elks Lodge #2162.
Nancy Parente presented three Gold Awards recipients from the Wantagh/Seford association wiith a Certificate of Honor from Exalted Ruler Richard Milhaven on behalf of Massapequa Elks Lodge #2162. The Girls Scout Gold Award is the highest achieved award in Girl Scouts The Eagle and Girls Scout Gold Award is the highest achieved award in Scouting. It was our pleasure to attend these ceremonies in recognition of these scouts Massapequa Elks Lodge 2162 celebrated flag day at Birch Lane School in Massapequa . The Students, school band and the orchestra participated in this event. The Elks represented the flags through the ages from the pine tree flag carried by the continental forces in the battle of Bunker Hill to present day. Participating Elk Members were Dan McCann, Eileen Sabella, Greg Vogel, Art McQuillan, Edgar Shepherd Jr., Candace Shepherd. Joe Russo, Kathleen Harrington, Tom Harrington and Frank Delaney. In additon to the Birch Lane celebration the lodge had a flag day celebration at our members meeting in honor of Flag Day.
Massapequa Elks Lodge 2162 Work With Our Community Libraries To Help Raise Awareness Against Drugs.7/9/2019 Massapequa Elks Lodge 2162 reaches out to Community Libraries to help raise awareness about drug prevention. Our Drug Awareness Committee brings 100 Drug Awareness coloring books and 100 book marks to Wantagh, Seaford, Plainedge, Massapequa, Amittyville and Copiague Libraries for their summer reading programs. In addition to the color books and book marks Massapequa Elks gave educational material about opiod abuse, dangers of vaping, drinking and driving to the copiague library for their parent section.
