Lodge Members performed the Flag Day Ceremony on two occasions. The first at our June 10, 2024 membership meeting and the second at Birch Lane Elementary School in Massapequa on Flag Day - June 14th. The Birch Lane ceremony, which was attended by all students, faculty, local politicians and many parents, was made more meaningful as 9 students participated by reading the description for each of the Flags presented.

Massapequa Elks Drug Awareness Committee delivered 250 drug awareness coloring books and 500 book marks to each library in Wantagh, Seaford, Plainedge, Massapequa, Amityville and Copiague for their summer reading program. In addition literature on the dangers of vaping , drinking and driving, marajuana use and bullying were also given for their young adult and parent section.
On Tuesday June 18, Massapequa Lodge #2162 Loyal Knight Joseph Russo - accompanied by member Fran Ward - delivered approximately $400 worth of non-perishable food to the Food Pantry at St. Rose of Lima located in Massapequa. Thanks to all our members for their generosity in assisting our neighbors facing food insecurity. Submitted by Fran Ward.
The Richard T. Smith Golf Outing Lodge 2162 was held this year at Timber Point Country Club on August 15 2024. There were 95 golfers and a luncheon with raffles and 50/50 back at the lodge. It was a successful fundraiser and this enables our lodge to give two high school seniors that are college bound each a $1000 scholarship towards there college education. Also $1000 will be donated to Guide Dogs of America Foundation for Veterans. Elks Major Project will be getting a donation of $500.
On Tuesday July 16th, Veterans Chair Fran Ward along with Committee Member Anne Williams, visited the Long Island Veterans Hospital at Stony Brook University. Our Lodge sponsored a delicious Chinese luncheon for approximately 50 residents, volunteers and staff which was thoroughly enjoyed by all. In addition, 55 Craft Kits, which we requested from our Elks Services National Veterans Commission, were delivered to the Recreational Therapy team.
Also, last month the Veterans Committee collected Manufacturers coupons which were sent to our Active Duty Military for the Troopons program run by the Support Our Troops organization. We collected, cut, sorted and shipped 802 coupons with a value of $3,684.49 for use by our Military at the Commissaries where they shop. Thanks to all our Members who help make these initiatives possible. |
